Zlarin is located southwest of Šibenik. It is separated from the mainland by the Šibenik Channel, and by a series of islets in the southwest by the Zlarin Channel.

Zlarin is the island of corals where the handicraft of coral jewellery manufacture is still preserved today. Due to the beauty of its landscapes and crystal-clear sea, Zlarin is sometimes called the "golden island" (insula auri), too. It is also known as a tourist destination with the longest tradition in these areas. A famous Croatian poet Vesna Parun was born in Zlarin, after whom the local museum was named.
